Iris is a genus of between 200-300 species of flowering plants with showy flowers. It takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, referring to the wide variety of flower colors found among the many species. A must have perennial, the iris tolerates wet, boggy areas and is very adaptable to a variety of soil types. Zones: 3-9. Deer resistant.
Bright violet standards with bronze falls with a dramatic yellow "eye" in the center. Often blooming around 'Mother's Day', Dutch Iris are good, long-lasting cut flowers and are ones that make nice clumps in the late spring garden; rather formal flowers that give wonderful linear form to the border; growing 18"-us.html" tall; hardy in zones 5-9. Long lasting blooms, lovely in bouquets and arrangements or containers. The blooms are 4 to 5 inches across. Plant 6 inches apart in fertile, sandy, well-drained soil; cover with 3 to 4 inches of soil.
